Jesus’ mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Joseph being just and not willing to make her an example, intended to put her away privately.
While he thought of these things an angel...
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, Wise Men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He that has been born king of the Jews? We saw His star rising and have come to worship Him.”
Hearing it, King Herod and all Jerusalem were alarmed. He assembled the chief priests and scribes and asked where the Anointed One should be born. They said to him, “In Bethlehem, for it is written by the prophet: ‘Bethlehem, land of Judah, is by no means the least among the princes of Judah. Out of you will come a Governor, who will rule my people Israel.’”
Then Herod secretly called the Wise Men, asking them the time at which the star appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem, said, “Ask around for the young child, and when you have found Him, bring me word so that I may also worship Him.” They departed.
The star which they had seen at its rising, was before them, until it came and stood over where the young child was. They rejoiced with great joy.
When they entered the house, they saw the young child with Mary. They fell to their knees and worshiped Him. Opening their treasures they offered Him gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, the Wise Men went another way to their own country.
After they had withdrawn, an angel came to Joseph in a dream, “Rise, take the child and His mother and flee into Egypt...
John the Baptist preached in the wilderness of Judea, “Have a life-changing mindset, the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” He was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness. Prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.”
John was wearing camel's hair and a leather belt, and he ate locusts and wild honey. People came to him from Jerusalem, all Judea, and the regions around Jordan. They were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
John, seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, said to them, “Brood of vipers, flee from the coming wrath. Bring forth fruit worthy of a changed mind from your sin, and think not to say within yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for a father.’ I say to you from these stones, God is able to raise up children of Abraham.
“Now the ax is lying at the root of the trees. Every tree that doesn’t bring forth good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
“I indeed baptize you in water for a change of your mind from your sin. But He that comes after me is mightier than I. Whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire....
Jesus was then led up by the Spirit into the wilderness, and having fasted forty days and forty nights, He was afterward hungry. The Devil came and said to Him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.” He answered, “It is written: ‘Not by bread alone will man live, but by every word that comes forth through the mouth of God.’”
Then the Devil took Him into the holy city, and set Him on the wing of the temple, and said to Him, “If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down. It is written: ‘He will give his angels charge concerning you, and in their hands they will take you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus said to him, “Again it is written: ‘You will not put the Lord your God to the proof.’”
Again, the Devil took Him to a high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. Then he told Him, “All these things I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Then, Jesus said to him, “Go away Satan, it is written: ‘The Lord your God you will worship, and Him only will you serve.’” The Devil left Him, and angels came and took care of Jesus.
When Jesus heard that John was delivered up, He withdrew into Galilee. He left Nazareth and went to stay in Capernaum, on the sea, in the borders of Zebulon and Naphtali. It was fulfilled that was spoken through Isaiah the prophet:
The land of Zebulon, and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles. The people that sat in darkness saw great light. Upon those who sat in the region in the shadow of death, light rose.
From that time, Jesus began to preach and say, “Take on a life-changing mindset, for the kingdom of heaven...
Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up the mountain. When He had sat down, His disciples came to Him. Jesus taught them,
“Blessed are the poor in spirit. Theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are the meek. They will inherit the earth.
Blessed are they that mourn. They will be comforted.
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness. They will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful. They will receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart. They will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers. They will be called sons of God.
Blessed are they that are persecuted for righteousness' sake. Theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they will reproach and persecute you and say every evil thing against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad. Great is your reward in the heavens. So persecuted are the prophets that were before you.
“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt becomes tasteless, by what means will it be salted? It is then good for nothing but, after being cast out, to be trod upon by men.
“You are the light of the world. A city that lies upon a mountain cannot be hidden, neither do men light a lamp and put it under the basket, but on the lampstand. It gives light to all that are in the house. So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works. Glorify your Father who is in the heavens.
“Think not that I have come to destroy the law or the prophets. I have not come to destroy but to fulfill. Truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, one letter or one point will in no way pass from the law until all be accomplished.
“Whoever makes void one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever will do and teach, he will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
“Truly I say to you, that unless your righteousness will be more abundant than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you can by no means enter into the kingdom of heaven.
“You have heard that it was said to the ancients: ‘You will not murder. Whoever will murder will be liable to judgment,’ but I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment. Whoever will say to his brother, ‘Worthless fellow,’ will be liable to the Sanhedrim, but whoever will say, ‘You fool,’ will be liable to be cast into Gehenna, the valley of wailing.
“If you bring your gift to the altar, and there, remember that your brother has something against you. Leave your gift before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
“Agree with your opponent quickly; while you are on the road with him, be careful, for perhaps he will deliver you to the judge, the judge to the officer, and you will be cast into prison. Truly I say to you...
