Pull Up Your Stake is a journey through the Four Gospels and life of Jesus using the English translation of the Codex Sinaiticus. The Codex was written around 325 AD, discovered in 1844, and contains the oldest complete copy of the New Testament. It is considered one of the most important Greek texts of the New Testament. However, because of its later discovery, none of todays’ bibles use the Codex as their original source material.
The English translation of the Codex for the book was taken from Henry Tompkins Anderson. He wrote it in verse form and it had to be changed into storyform. In some places he didn’t use a word for word translation and those had to be changed using the original Greek word and/or meaning. Some words were also updated using the modern equivalent. For instance, publican was replaced using tax collector.
The intent of this book is to give you the experience of the Four Gospels in the way it would have been read centuries ago with a modern revision. My hopes are that in just four short stories you will gain a better understanding of who Jesus is and the life that He lived. Share His story with family, friends and strangers, and most importantly, enjoy your time that you spend here with Him.
